Avengers Infinity War: Soul Stone and Red Skull Mystery Explained

If you haven't watched the Avengers Infinity war please don't read this post. As this post contain some spoilers that might ruin your experience of watching the movie. All been said lets get started.

You all might be now aware that there are total of six infinity gems or stones, which gives its user limitless powers. The names of the infinity stones and their powers are as follows

1. Space Stone: Blue in color, also known as Tesseract. This stone has the ability to open portal to other dimensions and space, where it gives the ability to its user to travel through the portal anywhere in the universe. 
2. Reality Stone: Red in color. As its name suggest it gives the ability to the user to alter the reality and mold it according to his will.
3. Power Stone: Purple in color. It has the ability to destroy half of the planet with a snap of his finger's and it also enhances the power of all the other infinity stones too.
4. Time Stone: Green in color. Gives its user the ability to reverse the time and also Dr. Strange uses the time stone to foresee the future of the Infinity war.
5. Mind Stone: It is combination of both the color yellow and Orange. Well it has the ability to manipulate anyone and control other people, make them do what the user of the stone desires. You might recollect how Loki use his scepter in the first Avenger movie to control Hawk eye and other member of SHIELD.

Well about the Soul stone, it was never really been introduced in all those 18 movies that marvel has directed so far. However, in the Avengers Infinity war the soul stone was brought into the picture of the audience as well as our superheroes. After the mad titan Thanos collected three of the infinity stones, the only stones which were out of his reach were the Time, Mind and the Soul Stone. Lets deep dive into the story of how he got his hands over the soul stone and who he encountered while retrieving the same.

To begin with, long time ago when Gamora the adopted child of Thanos, was assigned a task to find the location of the soul stone and Thanos knew that she won't let him down. But somewhere Gamora knew that if Thanos get all those infinity stones then it would be catastrophic and Thanos will become unstoppable.She decided not to reveal it to Thanos the exact location of the Soul stone to save the universe from his wrath. And later in the Avenger Infinity war when Gamora was with the other members  of the Gaurdian of the galaxy to retrieve the reality stone from the collector in the Knowhere ,to her surprise Thanos was already present there destroying the Knowhere as if it was nothing. There Thanos took Gamora with him to his warcraft, where Gamora find her sister Nebula.

We all know Thanos is super villain of all time, having the ability to play every card in his reach to mold things according to his will. He was sure that Gamora knows the location to the Soul Stone and he was well aware that she won't tell him where exactly the stone is. So he tortured her sister Nebula brutally to such an extent that every robotic part of her would rip apart from her body. Nebula was excruciating in pain and that was when Gamora was not able to withstand the torture of her sister any more and she gave up the location of the Soul Stone. She said that the Soul Stone is present in the planet named Vormir  and then Thanos took her to the Vormir to collect another stone which will take him one step closer to the victory and accomplish his dream.

Furthermore, when Thanos and Gamora reached Vormir. They found a ghost like entity who had wore a black drape with an hoodie. And guess what who was he, the villain from the movie Captain America: the first Avenger. Yes, I am talking about Red Skull, he knew that Thanos and child of Thanos Gamora were there to arrive. As he says " I am cursed to know that who is going to come here in the search of the soul stone". Red Skull took them to the edge of the cliff where he states the process of how one can obtain the Soul Stone. He maintains that "One has to sacrifice the most precious person, who means everything and whom you love a lot. A soul for a soul". And Gamora started to grin saying it aloud to Thanos that " You have everything yet you can't have what you desire because you don't love anyone". Thanos turned around and Gamora was shocked looking at Thanos's eyes, his eyes were filled with water as Thanos started to mourn

  and he grabs the hand of the Gamora and dragged her all the way to the edge off the cliff, throwing her of the cliff in a jiffy. Soon Thanos found himself in a lake holding the soul stone. This is how he got the Soul stone.

I also had the same question what is the real significance of the Soul Stone. Why was it so important to Thanos that he have to throw her beloved daughter Gamora off the cliff? As Thanos was on the mission to bring back the balance in the universe by annihilating half of the universe population, as he had made the promise to the mistress death aka Lady death, having all the stones would make him a juggernaut force of nature and he would achieve and also complete his promise. What Soul Stone really offer is the another reality wherein the souls of people are stored. A reality wherein Thanos can capture the soul of the people. It is presumed that at the end of the Avengers Infinity war, Thanos was in the Soul gem and before going to the Soul dimension he was brutally assaulted by the Thor new weapon, which is to be said has the power to destroy the infinity stones and that was the time when Thanos snapped his finger's and escaped from the battle field. Thereafter our superheros started vanishing away in the form of dust. It is believed that the superheroes who died or vanished away in the first part of Avengers Infinity war went to soul stone dimension. And in the upcoming part they will be revived  back from the Soul Stone to fight the remaining battle with Thanos. And the other way to revive our superheroes would be using time stone, again this is another theory that would happen in Avengers Infinity War part 2.

How did the Red Skull survived and returned back:-

About the Red Skull ( John Schmidt), no one really thought that we all would be able to see him again in the 19th marvel movie the Avengers Infinity war. I would also like to add that some of you might have thought that it was possible that Skull would appear in this 19th movie and yeah i also got the same thought but never really knew how would he appear and what role would he play. However, the questions still stands how did the red skull reached Vormir and how come he didn't die in the Captain America: The First Avenegers. Well Tesseract was a cube to hold the limitless power of the space stone and Skull had identified how to withdraw the power of Tesseract and use it in his weapons. In the end of Caps first movie ,captain america goes to HYDRA warcraft which was heading to destroy the Newyork city, in the fierce battle between cap and Skull , Cap threw his shield at Skull which struck him so hard that he collided with the container that was holding the Tesseract and then somehow Tesseract become unstable, unleashing its overwhelming power. The effect of the power was so immense that it looked like it was burning the skull and suddenly skull vanished into the bright light. At that point it was uncertain that the Red Skull really died. As the Space Stone (Tesseract) has the ability to open the portal to other dimension in space it became clear in Avengers Infinity war that Red Skull traveled through the portal and survived all these years.

Lets hope for the best and the next part of the Avengers Infinity war will bring back the broken pieces together and leave the audience satiated with all the action, drama and comedy which has to be followed in the upcoming part.
